California Mission on Display @ Bay Shore Library

Mission San Lowell de Quince
This make believe mission was made by all the 4th graders in Miss Parker's class in Room 15 at Lowell School. As part of the California history unit, students studied the Mission Period and wrote reports about one of the actual twenty-one missions. They learned that a typical mission would have thick adobe walls, a red tile roof, a church, rounded arches, an outdoor corridor, and a bell tower or wall. Students applied this knowledge to create this make-believe mission and named it after their school and room number.

This fictionalized mission is on display at the Bay Shore Neighborhood Library. Each year, 4th graders throughout Long Beach study California history, including a unit on missions. Many students even have to build a mission on their own! The Long Beach Public Library is a resource to students looking for information on missions, as well as all other subject needs for school.

Did you know that Long Beach Public Library even has actual models of real California missions on display at several library locations?

Long Beach Public Library also has a Family Learning Center at each location where students can work on assignments and get help from our Homework Helpers!
