Celebrate!
El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), known as Día, is a celebration EVERY DAY of children, families, and reading that culminates every year on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

El 30 de abril es una fecha muy significativa para los niños. Se celebra el día de los niños y de los libros. Esta celebración se conoce como El día de los niños/ El día de los libros, y celebra la alegría y las maravillas de la infancia y la importancia de los libros en nuestra vida.

Love in the Mirror Drive Begins May 1st!




The Long Beach Public Library and Love in the Mirror drive begins May 1st, 2010!








Please join the Long Beach Public Library and Love In the Mirror as they kick off a month-long drive to collect personal hygiene items for homeless children in Long Beach. Love in the Mirror founder, 6-year-old Jonas Corona and others will be speaking about homelessness in Long Beach.

April 22nd marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day - a worldwide celebration, designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. To celebrate Earth Day, the Cool Crafters at Main Library made eco-friendly crafts out of recycled materials. [photos below]

Helicopter Bunny!

Try this incredibly easy craft idea that will provide kids with hours of entertainment!

Materials:
Paper
Scissors
Paper Clip
Crayons/Markers

Instructions:
Use scissors to cut a bunny shape from construction paper and cut a slit between the ears. Fold one forward and one backward. Add a paper clip to the bottom for ballast. Toss the bunny up and watch him twirl down.
